About 'The Golden Compass' Film
The Golden Compass is the film adaptation of the first book of the His Dark Materials trilogy. The trilogy was written by acclaimed author Philip Pullman, and while the film may not be as fantastic and luscious as the book (known in the UK as Northern Lights), the movie was still magical and wonderful in its own way.
Brief Synopsis: The story takes place in a parallel universe, where every person is accompanied by a dæmon--the animal incarnation of the person's soul. It is in this universe that young Lyra Belacqua journeys from her scholarly home in Oxford to the far North, meeting witches and armored bears, to rescue her friend and ultimately, save many others from a gruesome experiment.
